And I laughed my ass off the entire time. The video can be seen above and the micro-car in question is a 1958 King Midget. KING of the midgets I tell you. The King Midget blurs the line between car and golf cart. It’s powered by a mid-mounted (ooh sporty!) eight-horsepower single cylinder engine displacing about 700cc’s? Total guess. It has mechanical brakes (lol hydraulic brakes are for cowards) that work on just the rear wheels, one forward gear, no seat belts and a top speed of 60 mph. Oh yes, dis gonna be good.
The Midget I drove is on the right. The guy who let me drive it, owns both Midgets in this picture as well as a 100% bitchin 1972 K5 Blazer. He’s a pretty cool dude.
Okay, driving experience:
You don’t know driveline vibrations like this. I’m amazed the GoPro footage is at all usable because this thing was like driving a paint shaker. It shakes at idle, it shakes at speed, it shakes all the time. My hands went numb from holding the shaking steering wheel. Your girlfriend will love this car.
Once on the move, the Midget instills an odd set of emotions. You have to hand signal, braking points are marked on a calendar and sometimes, for no apparent reason, it starts doing the shimmy of death at about 55 mph and things get hairy really quick. The thing is, you’ll probably be laughing too hard to care.
The King Midget is happiness distilled. Can you think of another car where you can poke along at 45 mph on the highway and people smile and wave at you?
Maybe I need to buy a micro car some day....

You could even street race without breaking any speed limits (you would probably be impeding traffic by street racing them ;p)
